Founder
I’m Meg, the founder of BAT Clay Studio, and I have been making ceramics since I was a kid in the 1990s.
To me, communal creative spaces are vital, because they open us up to new artistic possibilities while providing a base of support, knowledge sharing, and community.
As I expanded my craft, it occurred to me that we ceramicists need better ways to bring our goods to market, to allow for more time making and less admin. And when I moved to Southern Brooklyn in 2018, I saw that there were no communal ceramics studios in the area. So I decided to establish a membership studio right in my neighborhood and include a showroom for easy selling on site.
My personal work, which has been featured in The New York Times, can be found at mm-ceramics.com.

Prior to founding BAT Clay Studio, I worked as a documentary film editor. Among my favorite documentary projects, was a short profile that I directed about ceramicist Monty J, viewable here. The film, which won a the Jacob Burns Creative Culture Award at the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival, captures Monty’s unique artistic approach and depicts his remarkable commitment to the craft of ceramics.

The studio does not sell clay or other materials. We order as a group from Ceramic Supply on a regular basis. Everyone is charged by Ceramic Supply individually for their order, but we meet the delivery minimum collectively.
